The political atmosphere surrounding the issue of restoring full statehood to Jammu & Kashmir has heated up once again. National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to restore statehood to Jammu & Kashmir, and he expects the central government to take steps in this direction soon.
Speaking to reporters in Anantnag, Farooq Abdullah mentioned that the Prime Minister recently reiterated his commitment to restoring statehood during a meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He stated that the Prime Minister assured that the promise to return statehood to Jammu & Kashmir would be fulfilled. Consequently, the public and political parties are now keenly watching the central government’s next move.
Farooq Abdullah emphasized that the National Conference is not merely concerned with administrative powers or business rules but is demanding the restoration of full statehood for Jammu & Kashmir. He asserted that since this promise was made publicly at both national and international levels, it must be honored.
Meanwhile, the National Conference has decided to intensify its campaign on this issue. The party announced that a protest would be held in New Delhi on the first day of the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. This decision was taken during a meeting of party legislators chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on June 3.
Political analysts believe that the issue of restoring statehood could become the most significant topic in Jammu & Kashmir’s politics in the near future. All eyes are now fixed on the central government’s decision and the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament.
For now, the question dominating discussions among the people of Jammu & Kashmir is when statehood will be restored and by when the central government will translate its promise into reality.
