The Congress party has decided to intensify its public outreach campaign to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. The party will now reach out to every district, village, and remote area of the state and distribute documents to the public, highlighting the social, administrative, and economic losses faced by Jammu and Kashmir since becoming a Union Territory.
State Congress Committee President Tariq Hameed Karra clarified that restoring statehood is the most important political agenda for Jammu and Kashmir. He said that for the past year, the Congress has consistently raised this issue from the district level to Delhi under the “Our State, Our Rights” campaign and is now preparing to take it to the grassroots level.
These documents, to be prepared by the Congress, will be distributed as pamphlets, detailing how dual administrative control, curtailment of powers, and delays in decision-making have exacerbated the problems of the common people. The party believes that unless the public is informed of the true situation with facts, the mass movement will not gain strength.
Concern over power cuts, unemployment, and public anger
At a meeting held at the party headquarters in Jammu on Friday, serious concern was expressed regarding the frequent power cuts, rising unemployment, and growing public anger over local issues. The meeting also reviewed the progress of the MNREGA Bachao Sangram and other public outreach campaigns.
State Congress Committee Working President Raman Bhalla stated that the MNREGA Bachao Sangram is not merely a political campaign, but a fight for the economic survival of rural families. He alleged that MNREGA is being weakened through delays in wage payments, lack of employment opportunities, and complex digital processes.
People Troubled by Unannounced Power Cuts
Former Minister Yogesh Sahni said that unannounced and prolonged power cuts have crippled the common people, businessmen, students, and industrial units. The lack of reliable supply despite rising electricity bills is a testament to administrative apathy and poor planning.
Several senior leaders were present at the meeting.
The meeting was chaired by Raman Bhalla, while former minister Yogesh Sahni was a special guest. Senior party officials, block presidents, and grassroots workers, including former ministers Mula Ram, GM Saruri, Gurbachan Kumari Rana, and Manmohan Singh, attended the meeting.
Congress leaders stated unequivocally that the central government has repeatedly promised to restore statehood, but no concrete steps have been taken in this direction. The party has indicated that the movement on this issue will intensify in the coming days.
