A Pakistani prisoner lodged in Jammu’s Kot Bhalwal Central Jail died while undergoing treatment at the hospital after his health deteriorated. The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Rafiq, who was arrested in 2024 for illegally entering India.
According to officials, Mohammad Rafiq crossed the international border into India from the Ramgarh sector of Samba district. After his arrest, he was lodged in Kot Bhalwal Jail, where legal proceedings were underway against him under the Foreigners Act.
On Wednesday, the prisoner complained of severe stomach pain, following which the jail administration immediately admitted him to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Jammu. However, his condition deteriorated during treatment on Thursday and he breathed his last at the hospital.
Officials said the body was kept in the GMC Hospital mortuary for post-mortem and other legal formalities. The post-mortem was completed on Friday, and further procedures will be initiated based on the report.
At present, the administration is completing all formalities related to the case as per the established regulations.
