Director Agriculture Jammu conducts field visit in Marh Sub-Division

Inspects Agri ventures established by local farmers by availing HADP

JAMMU: Director Agriculture Jammu S. Arvinder Singh Reen today conducted an extensive field visit of Marh Subdivision to assess the impact of the technological interventions.

The Director Agriculture had an in depth interaction with the extension functionaries involved in the technological dissemination and implementation of various farmers’ welfare programmes. He also reviewed the ongoing projects under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP).

The Director Agriculture visited the fields of Vikrant Kaiser, a farmer from Marh Bagh village, to observe the implementation of vegetable cultivation under the Micro Irrigation Component of the Per Drop More Crop (PDMC) initiative. He explained that PDMC is a Government of India scheme aimed at enhancing water-use efficiency in agriculture. By utilizing micro-irrigation systems like drip and sprinkler, farmers are able to conserve water while increasing crop productivity. Director A.S Reen stressed the importance of creating awareness regarding the judicious use of water, tapping perennial sources of irrigation, and introducing climate-resilient crop varieties.

Later, the Director inspected the newly established Kisan Khidmat Ghar (KKG) under HADP at Marh. The KKG, which operates at the Panchayat level, serves as a one-stop center for farmers, offering a range of agricultural services including expert advice, access to quality farm inputs, and information on government schemes.

The field visit also included an inspection of a Mushroom Controlled Cropping Unit under the HADP, established by beneficiary Bal Krishan of Gurha Singhu village. Director Reen praised the initiative, stressing the importance of mushroom cultivation under controlled conditions as a sustainable and profitable venture. He emphasized the role of mushroom farming in generating entrepreneurial opportunities and providing employment in the region.

Addressing the field staff during the visit, Director Agriculture emphasized the importance of dedication and sincerity in uplifting the economic conditions of farmers. He urged them to promote the adoption of advanced agricultural technology, modern machinery, and high-quality inputs to improve the productivity and sustainability of farming practices.
