Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has proposed a total allocation of ₹43,290.29 crore for Jammu and Kashmir in the Union Budget 2026–27. This is approximately ₹2,000 crore more than the previous fiscal year’s ₹41,340 crore.

The bulk of the allocation is in the form of central assistance of ₹42,650 crore, with ₹270 crore earmarked for the Disaster Response Fund, ₹259 crore for the Jal Shakti and Flood Recovery (Jhelum-Tawi Flood Recovery) schemes, and ₹101 crore for capital expenditure.

Presenting the budget, the Union Finance Minister specifically announced the development of eco-friendly mountain roads in Jammu and Kashmir. Its aim is to build safe and sustainable trails in the hilly areas, thereby increasing tourism, creating local employment opportunities, and improving infrastructure.

In addition, the budget also emphasizes agriculture and rural development. High-value crops, modern agricultural technology, and rural development schemes will not only increase farmers’ incomes but also enhance local employment opportunities.

Experts say this allocation will prove to be a significant step towards both the economic and environmental sustainability of Jammu and Kashmir. Eco-friendly tourist routes will not only enhance the travel experience but will also promote local businesses and handicrafts in the hilly areas.

Overall, this budget is considered a major step towards moving Jammu and Kashmir towards safe, prosperous, and sustainable development.
