Relief for women and disabled people: Seats will now be reserved in Jammu’s buses and minibuses

News has come as a welcome relief for women and disabled passengers traveling by public transport in Jammu city. The Jammu Traffic Police has made it mandatory to reserve seats for women and disabled people on buses and minibuses operating in the city. Traffic officials held a meeting with minibus and bus drivers and instructed them to strictly adhere to the government’s orders.

According to the Traffic Police, under the order issued by the Transport Commissioner, Jammu and Kashmir, it will be mandatory to reserve special seats for women and disabled passengers in all passenger vehicles. Consequently, the Traffic Police are also conducting awareness campaigns to ensure better travel convenience for passengers.

DSP Traffic City, Ashwini Sharma, informed that seats numbered 1 to 9 in minibuses will be reserved for women and disabled passengers, while seats numbered 1 to 12 in larger buses will be reserved for them. Additionally, it will be mandatory to clearly state “Reserved” on these seats to avoid inconvenience to passengers.

He stated that drivers or transport operators who fail to comply with these rules will face strict action under the Motor Vehicles Act. Vehicles violating these rules will also be fined.

The traffic police have also appealed to the public to respect the seats reserved for women and disabled passengers and provide them with assistance during their travel. The administration believes this initiative will make public transport safer and more convenient.
