The discussion on the Motion of Thanks on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s address began today in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, marking the beginning of the Budget Session’s crucial and decisive phase. Before the discussion, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah appealed for a constructive, issue-based, and public interest-oriented debate in the House, expressing his hope for cooperation from all parties.
The Chief Minister said that the ruling party and the opposition should rise above political differences and engage in serious and meaningful dialogue on public issues, so that this session sends a positive message.
The debate on the Motion of Thanks will continue on February 3, 4, and 5. During this period, Assembly members will present their responses to the Lieutenant Governor’s address delivered on February 2. The address highlighted issues such as implementing artificial intelligence in key sectors, promoting sustainable tourism, strengthening the education system through ICT labs and smart classrooms, and further strengthening democratic trust after the return of the elected government.
The discussion is expected to conclude on February 5th with a detailed response from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, after which the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir’s budget for the year 2026-27 will be presented in the Assembly on February 6th.
Fierce but meaningful debates on governance, development, and regional issues are expected in the House in the coming days. Consequently, the discussion on the Motion of Thanks, which began today, is considered a crucial milestone in shaping the course of the entire Budget Session.
