The Directorate of Education has taken a significant decision in view of the rising temperatures in the Kashmir Valley and concerns regarding student health. According to the order issued by the Directorate, summer holidays have been declared for all government and private schools in the Kashmir Division—up to the Higher Secondary (Class 12) level—from July 6 to July 19, 2026.
The order, issued by the Directorate of Education on June 30, states that this decision was made considering current weather conditions and student safety. Regular academic activities in schools will remain completely suspended during the holiday period.
As per the order, all government and private schools will reopen and resume regular classes according to their scheduled timings starting July 20, 2026, once the summer holidays conclude.
The Education Department has instructed all school managements to strictly adhere to the orders regarding the holidays and to communicate this information to students and parents in a timely manner.
It is noteworthy that temperatures in the Kashmir Valley have been recorded above normal levels this year. Given the persistent heat, parents and various organizations had been demanding the declaration of summer holidays for schools. The Directorate of Education has taken this decision in light of these circumstances.
Students have been advised to take precautions against the extreme heat, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and continue their studies and other activities in a safe environment during the holidays.
