The weather body has sounded an orange alert for very heavy to heavy rain at some places in Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Bageshwar districts. Meanwhile, a red alert is in place for Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar as the state continues to reel under the impact of incessant rainfall

Extreme weather conditions in Uttarakhand have prompted authorities to order the closure of schools in several districts as a precautionary measure.

All schools up to Class 12 will remain closed in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Almora, Champawat, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar on Tuesday.

“Some of our districts are on red alert and some districts are on orange alert…The next 24 to 48 hours are crucial, and we all need to keep a close watch. Our entire district administration, NDRF, SDRF, all departments are on alert. We are also monitoring the Nanak Sagar Dam. It is flowing 5 feet below the danger level,” CM Dhami said on Sunday.

In view of the red alert issued by the IMD and the possibility of heavy rainfall, a disaster management meeting was organized in the Laksar Tehsil Auditorium. District and Tehsil level officials were present in the meeting. Additional District Magistrate Deependra Singh Negi instructed the officials present in the meeting to remain alert in their respective areas, jagran.com reported.

In the disaster management meeting held in Laksar Tehsil Auditorium on Monday, Additional District Magistrate Dipendra Singh Negi said that Laksar Tehsil area is very sensitive in terms of waterlogging.

In case of waterlogging in any area or any incident, officials have been asked to inform the District Disaster Management Office and Tehsil Office Control Room and the Control Room of flood posts so that necessary action can be taken.
