The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly witnessed a heated uproar over the attack on Farooq Abdullah. During the discussion, opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs accused the police and administration of serious security lapses.
BJP MLAs argued that the attack on such a prominent figure reflected the failure of the security system, which warranted an impartial investigation. Meanwhile, the ruling National Conference (NC) and its allies unexpectedly supported the BJP’s statements by thumping the tables, further heating up the atmosphere in the House.
It is noteworthy that security and police matters in Jammu and Kashmir fall directly under the jurisdiction of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the central government. Consequently, the BJP’s questioning of the police system has become a topic of discussion in political circles.
Political analysts believe that this incident has given the National Conference a new issue against the BJP, while for the first time the BJP has openly questioned the functioning of security agencies.
For now, this entire matter has intensified political activity within the Assembly, and a more heated debate on this issue is expected in the coming days.
