Preparations for new districts in Ladakh accelerate, special committee formed to strengthen administrative structure

Administrative activities have intensified regarding the five new districts recently created in Ladakh. Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena has approved the formation of a special Union Territory-level committee for the effective functioning of these districts. This committee will prepare a detailed roadmap for administrative arrangements, establishment of offices, and better management of resources in the new districts.

Notably, Changthang, Nubra, Sham, Zanskar, and Dras were notified as new districts in Ladakh last month. Following this, the government is now moving forward to strengthen the administrative structure in these areas. The committee has been tasked with studying the administrative, financial, and logistical challenges of operating the new districts and submitting its recommendations.

The committee will prepare a plan for the establishment of key government offices at the district level so that people can access government services locally. In addition, the boundaries of subdivisions, tehsils, naibats, and patwar circles will also be reorganized, making administrative work more systematic and effective.

The administration believes that the formation of new districts will strengthen governance in remote areas and ensure faster access to government services for the general public. In particular, those living in border and hilly areas will no longer have to travel long distances for administrative work.

This move in Ladakh is considered a major administrative change towards strengthening good governance at the grassroots level. In the future, several important decisions, including the establishment of offices and staffing in the new districts, may be made based on the committee’s recommendations.
