The Jammu and Kashmir government has given a major relief to government employees on the occasion of Bakrid (Eid al-Adha), declaring a special casual leave on May 29th. Following this decision by the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, employees will now enjoy three consecutive days off.
An order issued by the General Administration Department stated that a one-day special casual leave has been granted on Friday, May 29th, to mark Eid al-Adha. This government decision has sparked an atmosphere of joy among employees and the general public.
Discussion about this decision has also intensified in political circles. The ruling Jammu and Kashmir National Conference has described it as a result of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s sensitive thinking. Party spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said that while some states are cutting Eid holidays, the Jammu and Kashmir government has extended the holidays respecting the sentiments of the people.
He cited the West Bengal government’s decision to reduce the Eid al-Adha holiday from two days to one, while the Jammu and Kashmir government extended the holiday to three days.
Reactions to the government’s decision are also being widely shared on social media. Many have described it as a relief for employees and festival-goers.
