Amidst growing political stir in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah held a significant meeting on Wednesday at the Dachigam National Park with legislators from his own party, as well as independent MLAs supporting the government. During the session, the government’s performance over the past 19 months was reviewed, and various issues concerning the public interest were discussed.
This meeting comes at a time when Opposition Leader Sunil Sharma had claimed that the National Conference government would not be able to complete its full term and that some legislators might switch sides. Following these claims by the opposition, the pace of political speculation and discussion within the state had intensified.
Sharing photographs of the meeting, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah noted that all the legislators arrived at the venue by bus. He stated that the objective of the meeting was to assess the government’s performance thus far. During the session, achievements were discussed in detail, alongside the challenges faced and future plans.
According to sources, the meeting was initially scheduled to be held at the Chief Minister’s residence but was subsequently shifted to the Dachigam National Park. However, the Chief Minister clarified that the venue was not changed at the last minute; rather, the plan to hold it at Dachigam had been in place from the very beginning.
In addition to the National Conference legislators, four independent MLAs—who are currently extending their support to the government—also participated in the meeting. The invitation letters specifically mentioned that the session was intended for deliberations on issues of public interest and collective importance.
Political observers also view this meeting as an attempt to demonstrate the party’s unity and the government’s stability amidst the claims made by the opposition. Following this meeting in Dachigam, fresh discussions have emerged within the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, and all eyes are now fixed on the political developments expected to unfold in the coming days.
