A major road accident occurred on the Mughal Road on Friday when a Swift car, traveling from Rajouri to Shopian, lost control and plunged into a deep gorge. Six members of the same family were injured in the incident and were immediately rushed to the hospital.
According to reports, the Swift car (JK11D-4114) was heading from Rajouri towards Shopian. When the vehicle reached the Dubjan area—falling under the jurisdiction of the Hirpora Police Station—the driver lost control. The car subsequently skidded off the road, tumbled into the gorge below, and rolled over several times.
Upon receiving news of the accident, locals and the police rushed to the scene and initiated relief and rescue operations. After a strenuous effort, the injured were extricated from the vehicle and taken to the District Hospital in Shopian.
The injured have been identified as Sunil Sharma (the driver), Rajesh Kumar, Plavi Chandan, Aarav Kumar, Prachi, and Dua Kumar. All the injured are residents of Rajouri district and belong to the same family.
Hospital sources state that all the injured are undergoing treatment, and their condition is currently reported to be stable. The police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident; preliminary inquiries suggest the vehicle lost control and skidded off the road.
It is worth noting that road accidents frequently occur on the Mughal Road due to its hilly and winding terrain. In light of this, the administration has urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to prescribed speed limits.
