The ongoing campaign against drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir is evolving into a widespread mass movement. As part of this initiative, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha participated in a walkathon organized in Ganderbal under the ‘Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir’ campaign. Speaking on the occasion, he stated that the government is taking serious action against the drug trade and its adverse effects, and that this challenge is being tackled through the participation of all sections of society.
Addressing the gathering during the walkathon, the Lieutenant Governor noted that the administration, police, and citizens are working together to make Jammu and Kashmir drug-free. He informed that over 1,100 drug peddlers have been arrested and 1,036 FIRs registered during the special campaign conducted over the past 55 days. He remarked that these figures testify to the government’s continuous efforts to eradicate the drug network from its roots.
LG Manoj Sinha emphasized that the drug problem is not merely a law-and-order issue but a serious matter concerning society and the future of the youth; therefore, it is essential to transform the fight against it into a mass movement. He appealed to parents, teachers, social organizations, and the youth to play an active role in this campaign.
He stated that saving the youth of Jammu and Kashmir from the grip of drugs is among the government’s top priorities. The administration will continue to conduct awareness programs alongside taking strict legal action against drug peddlers. He urged the youth to shun drugs and focus on education, sports, and positive activities.
A large number of local residents, students, social activists, and representatives from various organizations participated in the Ganderbal walkathon. People pledged to build a drug-free society and extended their support to the campaign. The administration described the event as a positive and encouraging step towards liberating Jammu and Kashmir from the vicious cycle of drug abuse. Those present expressed the hope that through the joint efforts of the government and society, the growing menace of drug abuse could be effectively controlled, and a safe and better future could be ensured for the youth.
