Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo has issued strict instructions to hand over all transit flats to PM package employees working in the Kashmir division by July. At a high-level meeting held in Srinagar, he clearly stated that all eligible employees should receive housing benefits without delay.
The meeting comprehensively reviewed various issues related to transit housing, employee promotions, seniority lists, inter-district transfers, rehabilitation measures, and the welfare of displaced communities. Senior officials from various departments and the Relief Commissioner were also present.
3,257 flats allotted so far
Relief Commissioner Dr. Arvind Karwani stated that of the 6,000 transit flats approved for PM package employees, 4,648 flats have been fully completed, while construction on 1,352 flats is still underway. So far, 3,257 flats have been allotted to eligible employees. This includes 532 new allotments made since the last review meeting in March.
Infrastructure Also Reviewed
The Chief Secretary reviewed the progress of under-construction flats as well as infrastructure such as electricity, drinking water, internal roads, boundary walls, and sewage treatment plants. Plans for the operation and maintenance of migrant colonies and transit accommodation in Jammu were also discussed. Information was also provided on identifying land for the expansion of additional housing facilities in the Purkhoo area of āāJammu.
Displaced Persons Also Discussed
Key issues related to the rehabilitation of displaced communities were also discussed in the meeting. These included the resolution of pending cases under the Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme, adequate budgetary support for the maintenance of migrant colonies, and the development of an integrated online portal for digitizing the records of Kashmiri Pandits, West Pakistan refugees, and displaced families from occupied Kashmir.
Construction in Final Stage
Chief Secretary Chandrakar Bharti stated that a detailed project report for the operation and maintenance of the migrant colonies has been prepared, and work will commence as soon as the necessary formalities are completed. He added that the construction of the Ghulam Kashmir Bhawan in Suketar is approximately 50 percent complete, with the target date for completion by January next year. The community hall in Jagti is approximately 90 percent complete.
The Chief Secretary directed all departments to coordinate and expedite pending work and ensure prompt resolution of the problems of PM package workers and migrant families. He stated that the government is fully committed to the dignified rehabilitation of displaced communities.
