Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has stated that the upcoming Amarnath Yatra is not merely a religious event but also a significant opportunity to address the rising hatred, misunderstandings, and social polarization in the country. She remarked that the pilgrimage serves to strengthen mutual trust, brotherhood, and harmony between the people of Kashmir and the rest of the nation.
Speaking to the media in Srinagar on Monday, Mehbooba Mufti noted that lakhs of pilgrims from across the country would arrive in Kashmir for the 57-day Amarnath Yatra, commencing on July 3, to seek blessings at the holy shrine of Baba Barfani. She emphasized that the occasion should not be confined to religious faith alone but should also be viewed as a means to foster love and harmony among people.
She stated that ensuring the security and success of the Amarnath Yatra is not solely the responsibility of the administration and security forces; the common people of Kashmir also play a crucial role. Every pilgrim is a guest here, and it is the duty of all to look after their safety and well-being.
After meeting locals associated with the tourism and hospitality sectors in the Pahalgam area, Mehbooba Mufti remarked that Kashmiri hospitality is renowned across the country. When visiting pilgrims share their experiences in different parts of the nation, it reinforces a positive image of Kashmir and helps bridge the divide between people.
She observed that at a time when the atmosphere is marked by social tension and polarization, events like the Amarnath Yatra can bring people closer together. Direct interaction between locals and pilgrims helps dispel various misconceptions and rumors.
The PDP chief asserted that the Amarnath Yatra is not just a pilgrimage but a symbol of coexistence, mutual respect, and communal harmony. She appealed to everyone to contribute to the success of the Yatra and to propagate the message of brotherhood.
