Jammu city is soon set to be blessed with a new and unique tourist destination. The Waste-to-Wonder Park, being developed on the banks of the Tawi River in Bhagwati Nagar, is set to open to the public and tourists on July 10. The park’s unique feature is that replicas of famous historical and cultural heritage sites from India and abroad have been created using scrap and waste material.
Efforts are underway to have Chief Minister Omar Abdullah or Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurate this park, which is being developed by Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) on approximately 40 kanals of land. According to officials, construction of all the major artefacts in the park has been completed, while approximately 90 percent of the tiling work is complete. The remaining work will be completed in the next ten days.
World-famous heritage sites will be on display
Visitors will be able to see many of the world’s most famous heritage sites in one place at the West-to-Wonder Park. Seven major international art works have been installed in the park, including the Todai-ji Temple in Japan, the Sphinx in Egypt, the Colosseum in Italy, Angkor Wat in Cambodia, the White House in the United States, the Eiffel Tower in France, and the Taksong Monastery in Bhutan.
Further, replicas of five of the country’s iconic heritage sites—the Hawa Mahal, the Statue of Unity, Jantar Mantar, the Gateway of India, and the Taj Mahal—have also been created in the park. To promote local identity, the impressive structures of the Akhnoor Fort and the Chenab Valley Bridge will also be part of the park.
An artificial lake will become a special attraction for children
A small artificial lake, approximately three canals in area, is being developed in the park to provide entertainment for children and families. Equipped with water sports, this lake will become a major picnic and recreational destination. Children will have the opportunity to enjoy water activities, including boating, in a safe environment.
Amphitheater, Walkway, and Light and Sound Show
Construction of an amphitheater and a beautiful walkway are underway at a rapid pace to enhance the park’s modern amenities. A light and sound show is also planned to attract tourists, further enhancing the park’s appeal in the evenings.
Enhanced Food and Beverage Facilities
Cafeterias and fast food joints are being established within the park premises for the convenience of visitors. Visitors will be able to explore the park and enjoy the food and beverage facilities at a very affordable entry fee.
Construction to be completed on time: Officials
JSCL AEE Vivek Chopra stated that the park is targeted to open to the public by July 10th. He stated that all major construction work is in its final stages, and the remaining work will be completed in the next few days. A final decision on the date and time of the opening ceremony will be made soon.
The opening of the Waste-to-Wonder Park is expected to provide a new impetus to tourism activities in Jammu. This park will become a major attraction not only for locals but also for tourists from both within and outside the country.
