The administration has intensified preparations for the Amarnath Yatra 2026. The Ganderbal administration is working to streamline arrangements at every level before the start of the Yatra. In this regard, Ganderbal Deputy Commissioner Jatin Kishore visited the Baltal Base Camp and conducted a detailed review of the preparations and development work.
The DC issued necessary instructions to the BRO to ensure timely snow removal and road maintenance along the Yatra route. He urged all departments to coordinate and complete their work before the start of the Yatra so that pilgrims do not face any difficulties.
During the inspection, the DC reviewed the site plan being prepared from the Y-junction to the Domel access gate. He also reviewed the facilities being prepared for pilgrims, parking spaces, pony tracks, barricading, and other arrangements.
The Electricity Department was directed to ensure adequate lighting at key locations and pony stands, while the I&FC Department was asked to expedite drainage and security works. Telecommunication agencies were also instructed to provide better network facilities along the yatra route and base camp areas.
The Traffic Department has been directed to prepare an effective traffic plan to maintain smooth traffic flow during the yatra. The SRTC has been directed to establish additional transportation facilities and ticket booking counters.
DC Jatin Kishore later held a meeting with various service providers and officials in Sonamarg to discuss the rates for pony, palanquin, dandi, and tent services. He categorically stated that any form of overcharging of pilgrims would not be tolerated and that the rates set by the administration must be strictly adhered to.
He also directed tent operators to ensure mandatory installation of fire extinguishers in every tent, stressing that the safety of pilgrims is a top priority. Representatives of various service groups at the meeting assured the administration of their full cooperation in organizing the yatra successfully.
The administration says that this year all necessary arrangements will be completed in time to provide safe, convenient and smooth travel experience to the devotees.
