The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has taken a significant step towards making Jammu city’s roads safer and better. Potholes on city roads will now be identified using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, while a state-of-the-art machine worth ₹1.3 crore has been deployed for their repair.
Launched ahead of the monsoon season, this initiative aims to identify potholes early and fill them promptly, ensuring safe and smooth traffic for the public.
A live demonstration of the project was held in Jammu on Tuesday. JMC Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav stated that the corporation has decided to make the road repair process more effective and scientific by adopting modern technology.
He explained that AI-enabled cameras have been installed on special monitoring vehicles to continuously survey various city roads. The system automatically detects potholes and other defects, geo-tags their precise locations, and sends digital reports to the relevant engineering team.
Upon receiving the report, the repair crew will reach the site and fix the potholes using the new cold emulsion patching machine. This machine is capable of performing durable and rapid road repairs in all weather conditions.
The Municipal Corporation states that the combination of AI technology and modern machinery will significantly reduce the time gap between pothole detection and repair. This will help reduce road accidents, improve traffic flow, and prevent damage to roads caused by rain.
Experts believe this initiative is a crucial step towards transforming Jammu into a smart, technology-driven city. Efforts are being made to provide better amenities to citizens through data-driven urban management and the use of modern technologies.
If successful, this project could make the monitoring and repair system for Jammu’s roads faster, more transparent, and more effective than ever before.
