Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took a stern stance upon arriving at the Srinagar Secretariat. On the very first day of the Darbar Move, he sent a clear message to the bureaucracy: “Delays or negligence in work will no longer be tolerated.”
At a high-level meeting held on Monday, the CM thoroughly reviewed each department and directly questioned officials, asking, “Why is work not being completed on time?” The atmosphere of the meeting became serious when he expressed displeasure over the lack of coordination between departments.
The CM bluntly stated that no official obstructing public work would be spared. He gave clear instructions to officials that work should move beyond files and be visible on the ground. “We want results, not reports”—with this message, he alerted the entire system.
The officials present at the meeting were instructed to ensure that all projects are completed within the stipulated timeframe and that the benefits of every scheme reach the common people directly. Emphasis was also placed on strengthening the monitoring system and establishing accountability.
The Chief Minister’s firm stance on the very first day of the Darbar Move indicates that he is now preparing to crack down on administrative laxity. It remains to be seen how quickly the system will improve following this warning.
