The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) Jammu has demanded a 10% Green Tax on old vehicles imported into Jammu and Kashmir from other states. In this regard, a delegation led by FADA Jammu Chairman Sanjay Aggarwal met with Transport Commissioner Vishesh Pal and presented several suggestions.
The delegation stated that a large number of old and polluting vehicles are being imported from other states for re-registration in Jammu and Kashmir, increasing traffic congestion, pollution, and road congestion in the state. FADA demanded a 10% Green Tax on such vehicles.
The issue of Jammu and Kashmir’s proposed EV policy was also raised at the meeting. FADA stated that the policy should include strong hybrid and CNG vehicles, rather than just electric vehicles. It also demanded a reduction in the 21% VAT on CNG in the state.
FADA demanded the early establishment of vehicle scrapping centers in the state and the implementation of an age-based scrapping policy for private vehicles. The delegation said that around two lakh vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir are eligible for scrapping, but due to lack of facilities, people are unable to avail the benefits.
Apart from this, a separate portal for RC transfer of used cars, a fixed time limit and a grace period of 15 days were suggested. FADA also raised the demand for 50 percent discount in vehicle registration fees during the Mega Trade Fair and the creation of automobile service center clusters in the districts.
Transport Commissioner Visheshpal Pal assured due consideration of all the suggestions.
