Fourth blow in 14 days: Petrol crosses ₹102, diesel also expensive, burden of inflation increases on the public

Rising petrol and diesel prices across the country have increased the concerns of the common people. On Monday, May 25, 2026, oil companies increased the price of petrol by ₹2.61 per liter and diesel by ₹2.71 per liter. Consequently, petrol in the capital Delhi has reached ₹102.12 per liter and diesel by ₹95.20 per liter.

This is the fourth increase in fuel prices in the last two weeks. Since May 15, petrol has become costlier by a total of ₹7.41 and diesel by ₹7.51 per liter. This has also increased the possibility of further price increases in transport, milk, vegetables, and other daily necessities.

Oil companies say that prices have been impacted by disruptions in international crude oil supplies and rising tensions in West Asia. The global oil market is particularly under pressure due to disruptions in shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

The opposition has targeted the central government over this increase. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that inflation is continuously attacking the pockets of ordinary people, while Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge described petrol and diesel prices as “loot in installments.”

Experts believe that if the international situation does not return to normal soon, fuel prices may see further increases in the coming days, which will directly impact the pockets of the common man.
