In a major operation, security forces in Kulgam district of South Kashmir have arrested an overground worker linked to the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. Two grenades, posters of the terrorist organization, and other incriminating material were recovered from the arrested youth. Security agencies are considering this action a significant success against the terrorist network active in the area.
According to police officials, a joint team of the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police set up a special checkpoint on Thursday on the outskirts of Mohammadpora village in Kulgam. Security forces had received prior information that an overground worker linked to the terrorist organization might pass through the area carrying weapons and other material.
During the checkpoint, security forces observed a young man moving suspiciously. The soldiers signaled him to stop, but the young man tried to flee. Acting swiftly, the security forces apprehended him on the spot.
During the search, two hand grenades, Lashkar-e-Taiba posters, and other suspicious material were recovered from him. He was identified as Adil Hussain, son of Mohammad Sadiq Lone, a resident of Mohammadpora.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused confirmed his links with the terrorist organization. He stated that he was to deliver the seized hand grenades and other material to a terrorist operating in the district. He was also instructed by the organization to issue posters to spread fear and terror among the public.
Police have registered a case against the accused and initiated further investigation. According to sources, based on clues provided by Adil, raids were conducted at several potential hideouts in Kulgam and surrounding areas. However, no other terrorist arrests had been confirmed as of late last night.
Security agencies say that the operation against terrorist networks and their facilitators operating in the Valley will continue. According to officials, overground workers play a key role in providing ground-level support to terrorist activities, making dismantling such networks a priority for security forces.
