Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah participated in the historic Muharram procession held in Srinagar on the occasion of Ashura. Both leaders visited the Zadibal area, distributed refreshments among Shia devotees, and paid tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain and the martyrs of Karbala by offering a ceremonial chadar (cloth covering) at the symbolic Zuljanah.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha interacted with the devotees participating in the procession to inquire about their well-being and reviewed the security and public amenity arrangements made by the administration. Speaking on the occasion, he remarked that the life of Hazrat Imam Hussain stands as a symbol of truth, justice, peace, love, compassion, and the supreme sacrifice for humanity. He urged society to draw inspiration from Hussain’s ideals and move forward on the path of equality, mutual brotherhood, and selfless service.
Several senior police and civil administration officials, including Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and Divisional Commissioner (Kashmir) Anshul Garg, were also present during the event.
Meanwhile, prior to the commencement of the Muharram procession, the Srinagar Police issued an advisory to devotees and the general public, appealing for the maintenance of peace, discipline, and communal harmony. The administration ensured that security and other necessary arrangements were in place along the procession route.
The historic Ashura procession became a symbol of devotion, discipline, and harmony, with a large number of devotees participating to commemorate the martyrs of Karbala.
