Jammu: In a significant move benefiting sanitation workers, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has approved an increase in their ex-gratia payment. This decision will benefit all sanitation workers employed by the corporation, whether on a permanent, casual, or contractual basis.
According to reports, this decision was taken during a review meeting of municipal corporation officials. Sanitation worker unions had long been demanding an increase in the financial assistance provided in the event of an accident or any untoward incident while on duty. Acceding to this demand, the corporation administration decided to raise the ex-gratia amount.
According to the corporation, the employee’s family will now receive greater financial assistance than before in the event of an accident or emergency while on duty. Furthermore, this benefit will not be limited to permanent employees; casual and contractual workers will also receive equal coverage.
The Jammu Municipal Corporation has also stated that the payment process will be made simple and transparent. Officials indicated that the process for approving and disbursing the ex-gratia amount would be digitized to ensure timely assistance for affected families, sparing them from cumbersome bureaucratic procedures.
Sanitation worker unions and labor organizations have expressed happiness over this decision. They believe it will boost employee morale and provide a strong foundation of social security. Sanitation workers across various wards have also welcomed this move by the corporation administration.
Dr. Shahid Hussain, Health Officer of the Jammu Municipal Corporation, stated that sanitation workers play a vital role in keeping the city clean and healthy. Ensuring the safety of these workers and their families is the corporation’s responsibility. He added that the increase in the ex-gratia amount serves as a mark of respect for the employees’ contributions.
This decision by the municipal corporation is being viewed as a significant step towards strengthening the city’s sanitation system and promoting the welfare of sanitation workers.
