The Jammu Traffic Police have launched a strict campaign against drivers who repeatedly violate traffic rules. Over the past week, the police have seized 280 vehicles whose registration certificates (RCs) had already been cancelled, yet they were still being driven on the roads.
According to reports, these vehicles had numerous pending e-challans for various traffic violations, including overspeeding, jumping red lights, driving in the wrong direction, riding without a helmet or seat belt, and driving while using a mobile phone. The Transport Department had cancelled the RCs of these vehicles due to five or more pending challans and non-payment of the challans within the stipulated time.
The Traffic Police are conducting special inspections at various intersections, checkpoints, and major roads across the city. Vehicles found to have cancelled RCs are being seized on the spot.
Traffic Inspector Sunil Singh stated that the purpose of the campaign is not to harass people, but to establish traffic discipline on the roads. He added that drivers who repeatedly violate traffic rules endanger their own lives and the lives of others, so strict action against them is necessary.
He appealed to vehicle owners to pay their pending challans on time and keep all vehicle documents updated. The Traffic Commissioner’s office recently blacklisted approximately 3,000 vehicles with more than five pending challans. Registration and other online services for these vehicles have also been suspended.
The department clarified that such special campaigns will continue in the future to ensure road safety and traffic discipline.
