Amidst growing public anger and the deteriorating situation in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK), the Indian Army has begun strengthening its security preparedness. In this context, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited the Northern Command headquarters in Udhampur to review border security, military preparedness, and emerging challenges.
According to sources, recent protests and violent incidents against the Pakistani administration in PoK have escalated the situation there. In such a situation, security agencies are alert to the possibility that Pakistan may attempt to carry out some kind of activity along the Line of Control (LoC) to divert attention from internal pressures.
During the Army Chief’s visit, senior officers of the Northern Command provided him with detailed briefings on the current security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, border management, counter-terrorism operations, and modern combat capabilities. Additionally, discussions were held on the use of technology-based military structures, network-centric warfare systems, and modern weaponry.
This visit comes at a time when extensive security arrangements are being made across Jammu and Kashmir for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra. A series of review meetings are underway to ensure better coordination between the Army, paramilitary forces, and other security agencies.
Military officials also briefed the Army Chief on the preparedness and capabilities of the newly formed Integrated Battle Groups (IBGs). These modern military groups are capable of deploying to any front in a short time and effectively engaging the enemy. Designed to operate in mountainous, plain, and desert regions, these groups are equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and advanced technologies.
During the visit, General Dwivedi encouraged officers and soldiers to adopt new technologies, promote innovation, and maintain a high level of combat readiness in response to the changing security landscape. He also honored several officers and soldiers for outstanding performance.
Military sources say that the Army Chief’s visit is part of a comprehensive strategy to further strengthen the Indian Army’s operational capabilities and prepare for future security challenges. Senior Army commanders have previously visited sensitive areas in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to review security arrangements.
The situation across the border is being continuously monitored, and the Indian Army remains fully alert and prepared to meet any potential challenge.
