The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a major infiltration attempt along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district. A Pakistani intruder attempting to enter the Indian border in the Ramgarh sector was shot dead by BSF personnel late Sunday night, and his body was recovered on Monday.
According to officials, the incident occurred in the Check Majra border outpost area of the Ramgarh sector, where BSF personnel were on routine patrol. The personnel warned the man, who was attempting to infiltrate under cover of darkness, to stop. Despite repeated warnings, the man continued to advance, prompting them to open fire and kill him.
Identified as Mohammad Arif, a resident of Lahore
The intruder’s body was recovered during a search of the area on Monday. Based on a Pakistani identity card found on him, he was identified as Mohammad Arif (approximately 61 years old), a resident of Lahore. The body has been handed over to the local police for legal proceedings.
Suspect with Pakistani links also arrested in Samba
Meanwhile, in a separate operation, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police detained a suspect from Daboh village in Samba district. Preliminary investigations revealed several Pakistani contact numbers on his mobile phone. According to police officials, the suspect is being thoroughly interrogated at the Samba police station and his cross-border connections are being investigated.
High alert on the border ahead of Republic Day
It is noteworthy that security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir were already on high alert for Republic Day. The BSF and other security forces were instructed to maintain extra vigilance due to the possibility of cross-border infiltration amid snowfall and inclement weather.
Security agencies say that strict vigil is being maintained along the international border and LoC to thwart any infiltration or conspiracy.
