The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Thursday passed the budget proposals related to the Public Works Department (PWD), Mining, and Labor departments by voice vote. With the House’s approval, the path has been cleared for major steps towards strengthening the state’s infrastructure.
Under the budget proposals, modern corridors will be developed in Jammu and Srinagar, 35 new bridges will be constructed, and 21 snow cutter machines will be purchased to keep roads smooth during snowfall.
Presenting the budget proposals in the House, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the government’s goal is to strengthen the state’s transportation infrastructure, provide better road connectivity to remote areas, and provide relief to the common people during winter. He clarified that the proposed corridors in Jammu and Srinagar will improve urban transportation and significantly alleviate traffic congestion.
During the budget discussion in the House, 33 MLAs expressed their views on cut motions. Questions were raised on various issues, and the Deputy Chief Minister responded by assuring timely completion of development projects. Following this assurance, no cut motions were put to a vote, and the House unanimously passed the departmental budget.
The government states that the construction of 35 new bridges will improve connectivity in rural and hilly areas, boosting economic activity. The purchase of 21 snow cutter machines will ensure the early restoration of roads in Kashmir and high-altitude areas during winter, providing relief to the general public.
Provisions related to the Mining and Labor Departments also emphasize better resource management and the protection of workers’ interests.
Following the Assembly’s approval, the implementation of the schemes will be expedited by the relevant departments. The government claims that these projects will strengthen the state’s infrastructure and accelerate development efforts.
