Amidst the valleys of the Trikuta Mountains on Saturday, the movement of clouds, intermittent rain, and the resounding chants of devotees combined to create a truly sublime spiritual atmosphere. Despite the change in weather conditions, the Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage continued seamlessly, with thousands of devotees steadily making their way toward the Bhawan (the Holy Shrine) to seek the darshan (divine sight) of Mata Rani. Amidst the pleasant weather, the enthusiasm of the devotees was a sight to behold. Thanks to the respite from the summer heat, a notable increase in the number of devotees was also recorded along the pilgrimage route.
From early morning, dense clouds hovered over Katra and the surrounding Trikuta Mountains. Light rain and cool breezes rendered the weather delightful. During the showers, many devotees paused for a while at the covered shelters and rest areas situated along the route; however, this weather-related challenge had absolutely no dampening effect on their unwavering faith. Accompanied by family and friends, devotees continued their onward journey toward the Bhawan, all the while raising spirited chants in praise of the Mother Goddess.
The adverse weather conditions did, however, impact the helicopter services. For safety reasons, helicopter operations had to be temporarily suspended until the afternoon. Nevertheless, as the weather began to improve, the process of restoring these services to normalcy was promptly initiated. The emergence of sunshine in the afternoon provided additional relief to the travelers, while the cool breezes continued to keep the atmosphere pleasant throughout the day.
In recent days, the volume of pilgrims undertaking the Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage has witnessed a steady upward trend. Currently, between 38,000 and 43,000 devotees are arriving daily at the base camp in Katra. Driven by these swelling crowds, the town of Katra—including its markets, hotel complexes, and pilgrimage routes—remained bustling with activity throughout the day. The entire region appeared immersed in an atmosphere of religious festivity.
After completing their registration formalities at the designated centers and obtaining their RFID pilgrimage cards, devotees continued to set off toward the Bhawan. Along the pilgrimage route, officials and personnel from the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, the Police, the CRPF, and Disaster Management teams remained deployed to ensure the safety and comfort of the devotees. At various locations, travelers were also regularly provided with essential safety guidelines.
According to statistics, on May 29, 40,300 devotees paid their obeisance at the shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi. Meanwhile, by 4:00 PM on Saturday, approximately 29,000 devotees had registered and embarked on their pilgrimage. The arrival of devotees continued unabated into the late evening, leading to expectations of a further increase in pilgrim numbers.
Amidst rain, overcast skies, and shifting weather conditions, the faith of the devotees remained unwavering. Overcoming every meteorological challenge, the devotees’ steps continued to advance toward the Mother’s shrine, while chants of “Jai Mata Di” reverberated across the entire route. This very scene serves as yet another testament to the fact that the devotees’ faith in Mata Vaishno Devi remains unshakable under all circumstances.
