ew Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to reduce VIP culture, cut government expenditures, and promote austerity is now becoming a major national campaign. After the Prime Minister reduced the number of vehicles in his official convoy by nearly 50 percent, several state Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, and senior leaders are now following suit.
According to government sources, the central government has issued a message to reduce unnecessary government expenditure and utilize public resources only as needed. In response, several states have issued orders to limit the number of convoys of their ministers and officials, remove excess escort vehicles, and control the use of government vehicles.
Prime Minister Modi’s decision is receiving a positive response from the general public. People say that when the country’s top leaders themselves adopt simplicity, it has a ripple effect on the entire administrative system. Political experts believe this move is not limited to fuel savings, but also symbolizes a shift in the government’s working style and its connection with the public.
Home Minister Amit Shah has also reduced his security convoy. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has also decided to reduce his convoy. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued instructions to reduce the official vehicle fleet of state ministers and senior officials by approximately 50 percent. Along with this, work has also been initiated on suggestions such as promoting virtual meetings and a “No Vehicle Day.”
In Maharashtra, the Devendra Fadnavis government has ordered a reduction in the number of vehicles in ministerial convoys. Meanwhile, Union Minister C. R. Patil has given a message of simplicity by deciding not to use an escort vehicle. Union Minister Ramdas Athawale was seen traveling in the Mumbai Metro, photos of which quickly went viral on social media, and people cited it as an example of “connectedness with the public.”
In Delhi, Rekha Gupta has also emphasized the limited use of government vehicles. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma have also issued directives to reduce the use of convoys and government vehicles in their respective states.
The impact of this initiative has been felt in the Jammu region as well. BJP MLA Arvind Gupta, announcing the decision to remove his escort vehicle, said, “We stand with the Prime Minister and the country, and every public representative should convey the message of simplicity and responsibility in the national interest.”
Experts say that if such initiatives continue across the country, they could save crores of rupees in government expenditure. They would also have a positive impact on the traffic system, reducing the inconvenience caused to ordinary people by VIP movement.
This campaign has sparked intense political and social debate across the country. Many consider it a historic beginning towards reducing VIP culture, while some experts say that if this initiative is implemented permanently, it could lead to major changes in the administrative system.
Prime Minister Modi’s simplicity initiative has nationwide impact, with several Chief Ministers and Union Ministers joining the campaign to reduce VIP convoys.
